RHA 485, RHA 486, HA 487 Release

The Hulke Lab has released three additional oilseed sunflower germplasms: RHA 485, RHA 486, and HA 487. These lines have been developed to provide similar diversity for resistance to Sclerotinia head and basal stalk rot and Phomopsis canker in a high yielding genetic background, as well as downy mildew resistance! Lab Picnic!

Lab Picnic!

Last weekend, our extended lab family held a picnic at Oak Grove Park, where we grilled, played frisbee golf, and rode Brian’s tandem bike. Despite a few frisbees hitting Anna and a parked car, and taking a permanent swim in the river, the get-together was a success!

RHA 478 is an imidazolinone tolerant, Sclerotinia head and basal stalk rot resistant, high oleic F8-derived F9 restorer oilseed sunflower line. RHA 477 Oilseed Release

Our lab is proud to have released a new restorer oilseed germplasm, RHA 477 as of November 18th. RHA 477 is a F7-derived F9 restorer oilseed sunflower line selected from the cross RHA 468/R-7009. RHA 468 is an imidazolinone herbicide tolderant, downy mildew resistant, oilseed restorer line (by USDA and NDAES), while R-7009 is the donor line of early maturity and was obtained through a germplasm exchange with Dr. Mikhail Christov of Bulgaria. One of our big projects this summer was funded by Genome Canada, and involved us having a dryland trial and a flood trial out near Oakes, ND. While many maps have been developed for sunflower in the last few decades, most have been based on lowthroughput technologies and include marker numbers in the hundreds.
