Silflower
Silflower is a relative to sunflower and is also native to prairies of North America. We are working on domestication of Silflower. It is perennial and extremely drought resistant, which may make it an important species in certain marginal environments prone to drought and soil erosion.
Breeding
Silflower domestication has been relatively short with the process only beginning a few decades ago where researchers studied it as a forage and bioenergy crop. We are working to use Silflower as an oilseed crop. This research only began a few years ago.
